70 - 71 DeSales High School Basketball Team

DeSales High School 1970-71 Basketball Team
Inducted Class of 1998

The DeSales High basketball team of 1970-71 compiled a 17-2 record overall and went undefeated in league play winning the inaugural Finger Lakes West championship. This was the first basketball championship for the school. The team went on to win the Rochester Diocesan Tournament becoming the only team outside of Rochester to win the post-season tournament. (Since parochial schools were not allowed in Section V tournament play at that time all of the Catholic high schools had to compete in an open format where the smallest schools had to compete with the larger schools from Rochester.) DeSales defeated Elmira Notre Dame in the semi-finals 52-51 and Aquinas 81-79 in the finals to win the championship. The team ended the season ranked 6th in the final New York State small schools poll.

Team members were Ed Lavin, Steve Walczak, Tom Thibault, John Millis, Frank Pullano, Bill Riley, Jeff McDonald, Bob Bree, Wylie “Joe: Crisanti, Tom DeJohn, Ed Klestinec, and Coach Jim Dolgos.
