One of Geneva High's all-time elite swimmers, Ed was an all-league selection all five years that he swam. Over his swimming career he captured seven sectional titles and held five school records in multiple events. Ed's swimming coach, Randy Grenier, noted that Ed liked to swim in the more challenging events and always rose to the occasion in the big meets.
Ed was selected as the team MVP four times and served as team captain in his junior and senior years. He placed tenth in the state championships his senior year. After graduating from Geneva High in 1999 Ed went on to swim at Division I St. Bonaventure and was a member of their Atlantic 10 championship team. His collegiate swimming career was cut short by chronic shoulder problems.
Ed was also a two-year letter winner in baseball and was named team captain his senior year. That year he earned second team all-league honors as a pitcher and a catcher.
