Considered by many as one of the best all-around athletes ever to graduate from DeSales, Paul starred in baseball, football, and basketball. A 1966 graduate, Paul won 22 games and struck out 284 batters in his four year varsity baseball career. He helped lead the Saints to Wayne-Finger Lakes League titles in 1965 and 1966. In 1965, he pitched a 8-inning no-hitter and batted .421.In his senior year he won seven and lost one with two shut -outs, 87 strikeouts, an ERA of 0.85 while batting .310. Paul pitched for the Water Falls Cardinals semi-pro team in 1965 and 1966 posting a two-year record of 14-4. He was selected to the State League All Star Team and pitched in an All Star game at McArthur Stadium in Syracuse.
He was drafted by both the California Angels and the Los Angeles Dodgers and played for the 1967 Ogden Utah Dodgers coached by Tom Lasorda. The Ogden Dodgers were Pioneer League Champions that season. He played half a season with the Williamsport Astros until arm problems cut short his professional career. He went on to college at Niagara Community College and Fredonia State.
