Mary Margaret was born in San Francisco, California, but later moved to Geneva, New York where she attended school and graduated from DeSales High School. She attended the University of Miami where she established herself as a top-notch golfer and earned All-American status. Mary Margaret took up golf at the age of 11. She won the New York State Amateur title in 1968 and 1969 and won individual honors in the Florida Collegiate Championship in 1969. She was also a member of the 1969 and 1970 AIAW Championship teams at the University of Miami.
Mary turned professional in 1970 and earned a quarter of a million dollars during her career. Her best year was 1979 when she won the “Gold Putter Award” of $25,000 for having the lowest number of putts per round in a single season. Her career-best finish was in 1978 when she finished tied for second place in the Colgate-European Open. She is currently a teaching pro. Her grandfather was John Francis Dwyer who was also inducted in 1990.
