An All-American lacrosse selection at Hobart his junior and senior years, Dick was very quick and evasive with a tricky underhand shot on goal. A 1936 graduate of Geneva High, he was outstanding in basketball, football, and lacrosse. He was captain of both the football and lacrosse teams. An honor student, Dick was class president his junior and senior years.
Dick attended Hobart College in the fall of 1936 and played varsity lacrosse, football, and basketball all four years. He was captain of both the football and lacrosse teams his senior year. Babe Kraus said that Dick was one of the best lacrosse players he ever coached. As a running back on the football team, Dick was an amazing broken field runner attaining statewide acclaim. He was inducted into the Hobart Hall of Fame in 1986.
