A highly respected lacrosse coach at Irondequoit High School, Ernie has been very influential in promoting lacrosse programs in upstate New York on both the high school and collegiate levels. A 1950 graduate of Geneva High, Ernie was the captain of both the football and track teams and was the student body president. He also attended Hobart College where he played football and lacrosse.
As head coach at Irondequoit from 1961 to 1977, he had an impressive 211 wins, 19 losses and 22 championships including two Section V titles. He coached thirteen high school All-Americans. Many of Ernie’s players went on to be college players, All-Americans, candidates at the Military and Naval Academies, and college lacrosse coaches. He has received numerous coaching honors and has been named Coach of the Year three times by the members of the United States Lacrosse Coaches Association. He was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1984 and the Hobart College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.
