A four-year letter winner in track and field Kim was undefeated his senior year in the 120 high hurdles, the 330 intermediate hurdles and the 880 relay. He went on to win both league and sectional championships in all three events. He was also one of the captains of the 1978 GHS track team that was undefeated in all meets including the sectional championships. Kim was voted team MYP that year. That team was inducted into the Geneva Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. Kim set school records in the 120 high hurdles (tie) in 14.9 seconds, 330 intermediate hurdles (40.1 sec.) and the mile relay (3:30.6). In the state meet he finished in the top twelve in both hurdle events. He was voted team MVP by his teammates that year.
In 1977, his Jr. year, Kim competed in the 120 yd. High Hurdles, the 330 yd. Intermediate Hurdles, the 220 yd. dash, the 880 yd. Relay, Mile Relay, and the 440 yd dash. Kim was undefeated in the Mile Relay. He placed 1st in 35 out of 43 races in the events listed above, with (7) 2nd places up to the Section V Meet. In the League Championships, he was 1st in the Mile Relay, 2nd in the 120 High Hurdles., 3rd in the 330 Int. Hurdles. He and his teammates set the School Record in the Mile Relay in 3:36.1. Kim earned four Varsity letters in Track and Field and two in Football. In football he was an excellent running back as a Jr. but was ruled medically ineligible to play football his Sr. year due to a concussion. Kim has 2 children and 3 grandchildren and still lives in the Geneva area.
