A 1936 graduate of Geneva High Joe played varsity as a freshman on the outstanding 1932 team. Despite only weighing 137 pounds, Joe played fullback, returned punts and kickoffs, and played safety on defense. He scored four touchdowns in a game twice and was described by Coach Loman as “one of the best players I ever coached.” Joe was awarded a “Gold Football” at the season’s end. He later played semi-pro football for local teams.

Joe was an excellent fast pitch softball player. He played shortstop for the champion Gulvin Cardinals and the Geneva All Star team in the Ontario League. Joe also played shortstop for the great Lalli’s Shoe Repair, which won three consecutive league championships. He was a great fielder and a consistent hitter. Joe was also an outstanding bowler.
