Tom Marino, who graduated from DeSales in 1959, was the leading rusher and scorer on the varsity football team all four years. He was named to the Wayne-Finger Lakes All-conference team three years and was a unanimous selection twice. He served as co-captain his junior and senior years and helped DeSales defeat Geneva High both years. Tom rushed for more than 1,000 yards his senior year and helped lead DeSales to a 6-1-1 record and a second-place finish in the Wayne-Finger Lakes, their best finish in DeSales history up to that point. Tom was a four-year starter at guard on the basketball team. He was named all-conference his junior and senior years, leading the team in scoring both years. He was also a two-year starter on the baseball team as a second baseman.
After graduating from DeSales, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he had a distinguished career in the military. A highly decorated combat veteran, he retired in 1983 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Tom received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland in 1975 and his master’s degree from the University of Southern California in 1978.
