Fast Pitch Softball
Inducted Class of 1991
In the 1930’s and ‘40’s Geneva was a “hot bed” for fast pitch softball. Their teams and players were of top quality and respected throughout the state. At that time the Kodak Park team of Rochester, N.Y. was the perennial world champion and came to Geneva to play our best team. “Marty” McNulty was an outstanding center fielder and later a classy first baseman. He was a left-handed batter who hit consistently and with power; a very fast runner and base stealer; and, a crafty player. “Marty played for the championship American Can Co. team who dominated play in this area. They played the best teams in central New York State and actually beat the Kodak Park team once. In one span of time the “Canco” team won 26 of 27 games…losing only to Kodak Park. “Marty” later was Commissioner of the Geneva City Softball league. It should be also noted that he was a super hardball player…one of the best of his day.
