Track and Field
Inducted Class of 1999
A three-year letterwinner in track, Red was undefeated in duel meet competition in the sprints, middle distances, as well as long and triple jumps during his junior year. He was also part of Geneva’s undefeated trio of relay teams. Overall, Red won or was part of 35 first or second place finishes that year. He ran on the mile and 800 relay teams that won sectional championships. Red was the league champion in the mile relay, the 880 relay, and the 440 his junior year. He won league championships in the triple jump, mile relay, and the 880 relay his sophomore year. He led the team in scoring his sophomore year and was third in scoring his junior year while helping lead Geneva to league and sectional titles both years. A knee injury sustained during his senior year in football prematurely ended his outstanding track career.
A 1979 graduate of Geneva High, Red also lettered in football and basketball and was named second team all-league in football his junior year. His coach, Mike Canale, described Tom as “one of the greatest kids I ever coached. He was a gentleman and he loved to compete”. Red is active in the community most notably as a volunteer coach at the Boys and Girls Club.
