Inducted Inaugural Class of 1990
Sam was a star athlete in both high school and college. He was on the basketball and track teams for three years and played four years of football. In 1948, his senior year, he was the football team captain and received the “Rogers Most Valuable Player” trophy. Sam attended Hartwick College in 1949 and 1950 where he starred at basketball and football. He then went to Norwich University and played basketball for three years and football for two years. He was captain of the basketball team in 1952 and 1953. Sam was named to the All-State Football team in 1951 and 1952. Sam was named “Most Valuable Football Player” in 1952 at Norwich.
Sam was named to the Norwich University Hall of Fame in 1985. He was freshman football coach at Norwich in 1953 and assistant football coach at Geneva High from 1984 to 1989. He was a high school football official from 1959 to 1974. Sam served over twenty years on the Geneva Board of Education and as President of the Geneva Sports Hall of Fame.
