Steve put DeSales High School on the map where he was an outstanding baseball player leading the Saints to league titles in 1965, and 1966. Steve was a three year letter winner and batted .458 his senior year. He was also a three-year letter winner in football which led to a football scholarship at Mansfield State College. He was drafted and signed by the Cleveland Indians in the 8th round of the 1966 professional baseball draft. The contract prevented Steve from playing any college sports.
Steve played minor league ball for Cleveland at Dubuque, Iowa in 1966 and with Batavia (NY) in 1967. He is a life member of the Association of Professional Ballplayers of American. He went on to Mansfield State College where served as an assistant to the head coach and as freshman head coaches. Steve retired after a teaching career at Marcus Whitman High School where he taught Social Studies and coached baseball, basketball, and football.
